ABOUT ME

Hi! You know me as Markayla, but the truth is, that is NOT my real name. 

Initially, it was meant to be my fresh pen name, a clean break from my racy writing history as I ventured into tamer literary territories. But fate had other plans. I discovered a passion for cover design, and Markayla—already notorious on Goodreads for her rants about the scarcity of diverse cover art—began crafting covers for my author buddies. Before you could say "plot twist," Markayla became known as a cover designer, and get this—she didn't publish a single word.

Anywho, that's my origin story... for those of you who didn't know.

Now, I'm still the same planner-obsessed, coffee-fueled cover artist who likes her afternoon naps and iced lattes. I come from a long line of readers, and I've always been enamored with cover art. 

With the support of my wonderful husband and my beautiful and simply amazing daughter, I was encouraged to create Covers in Color in 2017. Since then, I have had the absolute pleasure of working with some of the most talented authors and publishers in the world. Even though I've not actually written in years, I am so grateful to be in a position where I still get to contribute to the industry. Most importantly, I get to support some pretty incredible storytellers.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't thank God for the opportunities I have been blessed with.
