LOVE LETTERS: A PLAYFUL WORD GAME

My daughter and I used to have this fun little game we played all the time (okay, sometimes I still make her join in)...it’s called the ABC game. The idea is simple: pick a topic and take turns coming up with words, names, titles, or phrases (depending on the topic) for each letter of the alphabet, from A to Z. You get one pass if you’re stuck, but the aim is to find a word for every letter.

I've gotten pretty good at this game, and if I'm honest, it’s something I now do in my head when I'm bored. Sitting at my desk, I thought, why not try this with romantic words? So, I did, and here’s the result. I'm quite proud of myself. Admittedly, I did 'borrow' the definitions (and the spellings—I'm a terrible speller), but hey, the words were all my idea!

I wanted to share this with you because I thought it might inspire you or give you some fresh ideas for your own projects. I just didn't think calling it "THE ABC GAME" was all that exciting. Sexy Alphabet Game didn't cut it either...so I present to you my:

A - Amour

• Definition: A French term for love, often used to describe a romantic relationship.

• Example Phrase: "Their amour was like a sweet melody, serenading their hearts."

B - Besotted

• Definition: Strongly infatuated or obsessed with someone.

• Example Phrase: "He was completely besotted with her, unable to think of anything else."

C - Cherish

• Definition: To hold someone dear and treat with affection.

• Example Phrase: "He cherished her with every beat of his heart."

D - Dalliance

• Definition: A brief and playful romantic relationship.

• Example Phrase: "Their dalliance was filled with laughter and stolen glances."

E - Enchantment

• Definition: A feeling of great pleasure and delight, often associated with magical or romantic moments.

• Example Phrase: "Their first kiss was an enchantment, leaving them both spellbound."

F - Fervor

• Definition: Intense and passionate feeling.

• Example Phrase: "Their love was filled with fervor, burning brightly in their hearts."

G - Gallantry

• Definition: Courageous and chivalrous behavior, often used to describe a lover's noble actions.

• Example Phrase: "His gallantry in rescuing her won her heart instantly."

H - Halcyon

• Definition: Denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful.

• Example Phrase: "Their halcyon days were a beautiful memory, filled with joy and love."

I - Infatuation

• Definition: An intense but short-lived passion or admiration for someone.

• Example Phrase: "Their infatuation was a whirlwind, consuming them in its intensity."

J - Jubilee

• Definition: A time of celebration or rejoicing, often used to describe the joy of being in love.

• Example Phrase: "Their love was a perpetual jubilee, a celebration of their hearts."

K - Keepsake

• Definition: A small item kept in memory of the person who gave it or originally owned it.

• Example Phrase: "The locket was a keepsake of their love, always close to her heart."

L - Longing

• Definition: A strong, persistent desire for someone or something.

• Example Phrase: "Her heart was filled with longing every moment they were apart."

M - Mystique

• Definition: An air of mystery and allure that surrounds someone, often adding to their charm.

• Example Phrase: "She possessed an irresistible mystique that captivated everyone she met."

N - Nirvana

• Definition: A state of perfect happiness and peace, often used to describe the blissful feeling of being in love.

• Example Phrase: "Their love was pure nirvana, a state of perfect harmony and joy."

O - Opalescent

• Definition: Showing varying colors as an opal does, often used to describe the multifaceted nature of love.

• Example Phrase: "Her love was opalescent, shining with a spectrum of emotions."

P - Panache

• Definition: Flamboyant confidence of style or manner, often used to describe a distinctive charm in love.

• Example Phrase: "He wooed her with panache, sweeping her off her feet."

Q - Quixotic

• Definition: Exceedingly idealistic; unrealistic and impractical.

• Example Phrase: "Their love was quixotic, a fantastical romance that defied reality."

R - Radiance

• Definition: Brightness and warmth, often used to describe the glow of love and happiness.

• Example Phrase: "Her smile had a radiance that lit up his world."

S - Serendipity

• Definition: The occurrence of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

• Example Phrase: "Their meeting was pure serendipity, a twist of fate that brought them together."

T - Tryst

• Definition: A private, romantic rendezvous between lovers.

• Example Phrase: "They met for a secret tryst, their love igniting in the moonlit night."

U - Unrequited

• Definition: Describing a love that is not returned or reciprocated.

• Example Phrase: "Her unrequited love for him was a source of deep sorrow."

V - Veneration

• Definition: Great respect and reverence, often used to describe the admiration one feels for a loved one.

• Example Phrase: "His veneration for her was evident in every word and gesture."

W - Whimsy

• Definition: Playful or fanciful behavior, often used to describe the light-hearted moments in a relationship.

• Example Phrase: "Their love was filled with whimsy, making every day an adventure."

X - Xenodochy

• Definition: The spirit of hospitality, often used to describe the warm welcome one feels in the presence of a loved one.

• Example Phrase: "Her home was a place of xenodochy, where he always felt cherished and loved."

Y - Yearning

• Definition: A deep and intense longing for someone.

• Example Phrase: "Her yearning for him was like a constant ache in her heart."

Z - Zeal

• Definition: Great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or objective, often used to describe the fervent pursuit of love.

• Example Phrase: "His zeal to win her heart was evident in every grand gesture."
